HEKAN DCC Abuja was established on the 1st of January 1992. The DCC was officially inaugurated on the 28th of June 1992. The DCC was formed when two LCCs, Garki and Wuse were brought together under one umbrella form the initial LCCs. The DCC has grown both in physical, numerical and spiritual strength. Today there are3 full fledge LCCs with two others undergoing the trial period before the official confirmation as full fledge LCCs in due course. The DCC has expanded its work outside the Federal Capital Territory Abuja to neighboring states like Niger, Nassarawa and Plateau states, The DCC also faced series of challenges when the FCT authorities pulled down two of her bigger churches in Nyanya and Wuse for reasons the authorities called “illegal structures”. These two churches were relocated to other areas and modern churches have been built there. In spite of these challenges, the DCC continues to wax stronger by opening more churches. As an urban church, the DCC is a major supporter to the GCC in terms of financial contributions.
Some of the clergy that have led the DCC are as follows:
1. | Rev. Kiliyobas R. Kuji |
2. | Rev. Lipana M. Bappa |
3. | Rev. John Kashim |
4. | Rev. Bitrus P. Wappa |
5. | Rev. Emmanuel N. Dziggau |
6. | Rev N.H. Lambandaji |
7. | Rev. Emmanuel Nama |
8. | Rev. Usman Y. Karim |
9. | Rev. Iliya Anto |
10. | Rev. Ayuba Gyero |
11. | Rev. James T. Kwabes |
The DCC is currently facing serious challenges of order from the police to vacate from police Barracks and leave the church for the police Chaplaincy or demolish the church building. Talks are still ongoing between the Police Chaplaincy and the affected denominations as not only HEKAN is affected by the decision to vacate the barrack. As time goes on, the DCC was split into two, where a new DCC, Nyanya was carved out of it.
